The seaport of Picton at the head of Queen Charlotte Sound is a mere 25 kilometres from Wellington, approximately three hours by conventional ferry (two hours fast ferry) along what is arguably the country's most attractive sea route. Alternatively a twenty minute flight across the Cook Strait gives breath taking views of the water ways below.
